RNAi Therapeutics

The Dr HLS team is leading the way in the discovery and development of microRNA therapeutics.

Overview

While today’s treatments were designed to target only one or two oncogenes or pathways, Dr. Habibullah Life Sciences, a RNA Therapeutics company, focuses on microRNA (miRNA)-based oncology therapeutics. Designed to inhibit multiple cancer pathways, we believe that miRNA may reduce the risk of the development of drug resistance. We leverage our unique expertise in the fields of miRNA biology, the genetics of human disease, and oligonucleotide drug development to identify and select the best microRNA targets with the highest therapeutic potential. We apply best-in-class chemistries to create the safest and most effective compounds, all the while working on innovative approaches that will accelerate these discoveries to the clinic.

Therapeutic Approaches

miRNA Replacement Therapy:  miRNAs that acquire a gain-of-function in the diseased tissue (e.g. oncogenic miRNAs) can be inhibited by using miRNA antagonists.

miRNA Inhibition Therapy:  miRNAs that show a loss-of-function (e.g. tumor suppressor miRNAs) can be restored by using miRNA mimics.

Therapeutic Areas

Dr. HLS is focused on discovering and developing innovative microRNA-targeting therapies to improve human health, specifically in disease areas where significant medical needs haven’t been met..

Dr. Habibullah Life Sciences focuses its activities on four major therapeutic areas:

  • Gastric cancer
  • Brain cancer
  • Breast cancer
  • Infectious diseases

About RNA Interference (RNAi)
RNAi (RNA Interference) is a mechanism present in living cells that inhibits the expression of a specific gene, thereby affecting the production of a specific protein. It is a new therapeutic strategy for treating many diseases, including cancer. RNAi-based cancer drugs and delivery systems are designed to effectively penetrate and treat malignant tumors. When compared to conventional treatments, RNAi’s advantage lies in its high specificity and potency, as well as low toxicity.

About microRNA (miRNA)
MicroRNAs are small RNAs that naturally occur in humans and other animals, that regulate how much protein is made from messenger RNA (mRNA). Each microRNA can target hundreds of different mRNAs, regulating entire networks of genes. MicroRNA medicines can be used to treat complex diseases like cancer that are caused by many different malfunctioning proteins.
